Tôi lớn lên giữa hai miền Lễ – một bên khuôn phép, một bên trầm mặc.

Ở nhà ông, bữa cơm luôn bắt đầu bằng tiếng “mời”. Mỗi hành động đều có “khuôn”. Cách nói chuyện có tầng, có nấc.
Ở nhà bà, mọi thứ chậm. Khi đi ngang bàn thờ, dù không ai dạy, người ta tự khép mình. Những câu chào có dư âm như một điệu hò xa.

Tôi không hiểu “Chữ Lễ” là gì cho đến khi tôi rời khỏi nhà. Và thấy thế giới ngày càng ít nó. Cái “ít” ấy không phải là sự biến mất hoàn toàn, mà là một sự nhạt nhòa, một thứ gì đó tinh tế đang dần bị bỏ quên trong guồng quay hối hả. Nó khiến tôi tự hỏi, liệu cái “ít” này có đang bào mòn đi một phần quan trọng trong bản sắc của chúng ta? Liệu “Chữ Lễ” có đơn thuần chỉ là những quy tắc, hay nó còn mang một ý nghĩa sâu xa hơn, định hình nên cốt cách của người Việt?

I. Chữ Lễ – không phải khuôn khổ, mà là cốt cách

“Lễ” là một trong năm chữ trụ cột của Nho giáo: Nhân – Lễ – Nghĩa – Trí – Tín. Nhưng trong lòng người Việt, Chữ Lễ không khô cứng như sách vở. Nó mềm mại hơn, thấm đẫm tình người hơn, và được thể hiện một cách tự nhiên như hơi thở.

Lễ là cách người ta giữ mình khi đối mặt với người khác.

• Không phô trương, nhưng luôn tôn trọng: Sự tôn trọng ở đây không nằm ở những lời lẽ hoa mỹ, mà ở thái độ chân thành, ánh mắt lắng nghe và sự thừa nhận giá trị của người đối diện. Nó là sự tự ý thức về vị trí của mình và vị trí của người khác trong mối quan hệ.
• Không rập khuôn, nhưng luôn giữ mực: “Giữ mực” không phải là sự gò bó trong những khuôn phép cứng nhắc, mà là một sự tự giác điều chỉnh hành vi, lời nói sao cho phù hợp với hoàn cảnh và không gây khó chịu cho người khác. Nó là sự tinh tế trong ứng xử, là khả năng “biết điều”.

Chữ Lễ có trong:

• Lễ nghĩa: lời ăn tiếng nói. Đó không chỉ là những từ ngữ lịch sự, mà còn là cách chúng ta truyền tải thông điệp một cách nhã nhặn, tránh gây tổn thương hay hiểu lầm. Nó là sự cân nhắc trong từng câu chữ, thể hiện sự tôn trọng đối với người nghe.
• Lễ nghi: cách thực hiện hành động. Từ cách cúi chào, cách trao nhận đồ vật, đến những nghi thức trong các dịp quan trọng, tất cả đều thể hiện sự trang trọng và ý thức về giá trị của hành động đó. Nó là sự chỉn chu, cẩn thận trong từng cử chỉ.
• Lễ độ: thái độ với người khác, dù thân hay sơ. Lễ độ không phân biệt đối tượng. Nó là sự lịch sự, nhã nhặn và tôn trọng dành cho tất cả mọi người, bất kể mối quan hệ hay địa vị xã hội. Nó là nền tảng để xây dựng những mối quan hệ tốt đẹp.

Nó không phải “để cho người ta thấy”, mà để người ta cảm. Cái “cảm” này sâu sắc hơn mọi lời nói. Đó là sự an tâm, sự tin tưởng và sự kết nối vô hình được tạo ra bởi một người có “Lễ”.

II. Lễ trải dài theo miền – mỗi vùng một dáng, một khí chất

Miền Bắc:

Chữ Lễ đi liền với nề nếp. Nếp nhà Bắc Bộ xưa là một hệ thống các quy tắc ứng xử tỉ mỉ, từ cách xưng hô, mời khách, đến vị trí ngồi trong bữa ăn. Nó tạo nên một trật tự rõ ràng, thể hiện sự tôn trọng thứ bậc và vai vế.

Từ “thưa gửi”, “xin phép”, đến cách đặt bát đũa. Những hành động nhỏ nhặt này không chỉ là thói quen, mà còn là sự giáo dục về ý thức kỷ luật và tôn trọng người lớn.

Người Hà Nội xưa luôn nói chuyện bằng lời nhẹ, giữ ý trong từng chữ. Sự thanh lịch trong ngôn ngữ là một biểu hiện tinh tế của “Lễ”, tránh những lời lẽ thô tục, suồng sã.

Miền Trung – đặc biệt là Huế:

Chữ Lễ gắn liền với sự tĩnh lặng và thâm trầm. Cái “chậm” của người Huế không phải là sự lề mề, mà là sự cẩn trọng, suy nghĩ kỹ trước khi hành động và nói năng.

Không quá lời, không vội. Mọi thứ đều được thực hiện một cách từ tốn, trang trọng, như thể đang thực hiện một nghi thức thiêng liêng.

Một cái cúi đầu sâu, một tiếng “dạ” rõ, đủ khiến người ta cảm động. Sự chân thành và thành kính trong những hành động và lời nói này chạm đến trái tim người đối diện một cách sâu sắc.

Miền Nam:

Chữ Lễ nhẹ nhàng, hiền hậu. Sự phóng khoáng và cởi mở của người miền Nam không đồng nghĩa với việc thiếu “Lễ”. “Chữ Lễ” ở đây được thể hiện một cách tự nhiên, không câu nệ hình thức.

Người Nam có thể không dùng nhiều ngôn từ cổ kính, nhưng biết cách giữ lòng người qua sự tử tế thật thà. Sự chân chất, thẳng thắn và lòng tốt bụng là những biểu hiện đẹp của “Chữ Lễ” ở vùng đất này.

Tuy khác nhau về hình, nhưng giống nhau ở hồn – Lễ là sự “biết điều”, là “tự biết mình là ai trong không gian của người khác.” Cái “biết điều” này là sự nhạy cảm trong giao tiếp, là khả năng đặt mình vào vị trí của người khác để ứng xử một cách phù hợp và tôn trọng.

Nó là sự tự ý thức về vai trò và trách nhiệm của mình trong cộng đồng. Sự khác biệt trong biểu hiện của “Lễ” giữa các vùng miền cho thấy sự đa dạng và phong phú của văn hóa Việt Nam. “Lễ” không phải là một khuôn mẫu cứng nhắc, mà là một tinh thần chung được thể hiện một cách linh hoạt, phù hợp với đặc trưng văn hóa của từng vùng đất.

III. Khi Lễ dần mờ đi – thế hệ hiện đại và khoảng trống vô hình

Chúng ta vẫn có đám cưới, đám tang, tiệc Tết… Những dịp này vẫn còn giữ lại những nghi thức truyền thống, nhưng đôi khi, chúng ta thực hiện chúng như một nghĩa vụ hơn là một sự hiểu biết và trân trọng thực sự.

Nhưng lễ nghĩa thì mỏng dần. Cái “mỏng dần” này không dễ nhận thấy, nhưng nó âm thầm len lỏi vào từng mối quan hệ, từng hành vi ứng xử.

• Trẻ con gọi người lớn bằng tên. Sự suồng sã trong cách xưng hô, dù đôi khi xuất phát từ sự gần gũi, lại vô tình làm mất đi sự tôn trọng cần thiết.
• Người lớn nói chuyện không nhìn nhau. Sự thiếu tập trung trong giao tiếp, vùi đầu vào điện thoại, cho thấy sự thiếu tôn trọng đối với người đang nói chuyện.
• Mâm cơm gia đình không còn tiếng “mời”, chỉ còn “ăn đi”. Bữa cơm gia đình, vốn là nơi vun đắp tình cảm, đôi khi trở nên vội vã và thiếu đi sự quan tâm, chia sẻ.

Một xã hội vội vã dễ đánh mất điều không đếm được. “Lễ” là một giá trị tinh thần, không thể cân đo đong đếm, và chính vì vậy, nó dễ bị bỏ qua trong cuộc sống hiện đại đầy những con số và mục tiêu vật chất.

Không ai cố tình vứt bỏ chữ Lễ – chỉ là không còn ai đủ kiên nhẫn để giữ nó. Sự kiên nhẫn để lắng nghe, để quan sát, để thực hiện những hành động nhỏ bé thể hiện sự tôn trọng đang dần trở nên hiếm hoi. Cái khoảng trống vô hình mà sự mờ nhạt của “Lễ” tạo ra là sự thiếu kết nối thực sự giữa người với người. Nó là sự hụt hẫng trong những mối quan hệ, là sự cô đơn dù giữa đám đông. Chúng ta đang dần đánh mất đi những sợi dây tình cảm tinh tế được dệt nên bởi sự tôn trọng và những cử chỉ lễ nghĩa.

IV. Lễ không cần to – chỉ cần đúng, đủ, và có thật tâm

Không phải cứ mặc áo dài, nói chữ Hán, bày cỗ bàn mới là Lễ. Hình thức đôi khi quan trọng, nhưng cái cốt lõi vẫn là tấm lòng và sự chân thành.

Lễ có thể nằm trong những điều nhỏ nhất: Những hành động nhỏ bé xuất phát từ sự quan tâm và tôn trọng thực sự có giá trị hơn vạn lời nói hoa mỹ.

• Một lời “dạ” khi cha mẹ gọi. Âm thanh giản dị ấy chứa đựng sự vâng lời và tôn kính.
• Một tay nâng ly nước mời khách. Cử chỉ nhỏ nhưng thể hiện sự chu đáo và lòng hiếu khách.
• Một ánh nhìn khiêm khiêm khi bước vào nhà ai đó. Ánh mắt thể hiện sự tôn trọng không gian riêng tư của người khác.
• Một tiếng “cảm ơn” không quên, dù là người quen hay người phục vụ. Lời cảm ơn chân thành thể hiện sự biết ơn và trân trọng sự giúp đỡ của người khác.

“Đúng” ở đây là phù hợp với hoàn cảnh và đối tượng giao tiếp. “Đủ” là vừa vặn, không phô trương, không hời hợt. Và quan trọng nhất là “thật tâm” – xuất phát từ sự chân thành và lòng tôn trọng thực sự.

V. Tục ngữ xưa không lỗi thời – chỉ là bị lãng quên

“Lời chào cao hơn mâm cỗ”. Câu tục ngữ nhắc nhở về giá trị của lời nói lịch sự và thái độ tôn trọng trong giao tiếp. Một lời chào chân thành có thể mở ra những mối quan hệ tốt đẹp.

“Ăn trông nồi, ngồi trông hướng”. Lời dạy về cách cư xử lịch thiệp trong bữa ăn và nơi công cộng, thể hiện sự ý tứ và tôn trọng những người xung quanh.

“Kính trên, nhường dưới”. Nguyên tắc ứng xử cơ bản trong gia đình và xã hội, đề cao sự tôn trọng người lớn tuổi và nhường nhịn người nhỏ tuổi.

“Tiếng nói là gương soi lòng người”. Câu tục ngữ khẳng định tầm quan trọng của ngôn ngữ trong việc thể hiện phẩm chất và nhân cách của một con người.

Đó không phải là những câu cho vui. Chúng là những bài học sâu sắc được đúc kết từ kinh nghiệm sống của bao thế hệ.

Đó là cách người Việt tự dặn lòng sống sao cho phải. Chúng là những kim chỉ nam đạo đức, giúp mỗi người định hướng hành vi và xây dựng các mối quan hệ tốt đẹp. Những câu tục ngữ này không chỉ là di sản ngôn ngữ, mà còn là những viên ngọc quý trong kho tàng văn hóa đạo đức của dân tộc. Việc “lãng quên” chúng đồng nghĩa với việc chúng ta đang bỏ lỡ những bài học quý giá về cách sống “có Lễ”.

VI. Giữ Lễ không phải là đi ngược thời đại – mà là giữ lại phần người

Có người sẽ nói:

“Giờ ai còn mấy cái đó nữa. Quan trọng là sống thật, không giả tạo.” Lối sống thực dụng và đề cao cá nhân đôi khi khiến người ta xem nhẹ những giá trị truyền thống như “Lễ”.

Nhưng Lễ không phải là giả. Nó không phải là một chiếc mặt nạ để che đậy con người thật.

Lễ là biểu hiện ra ngoài của một nội tâm có trật tự. Một người có “Lễ” là người biết tự chủ, biết kiềm chế những cảm xúc tiêu cực và hướng đến những hành vi văn minh.

Người sống có Lễ – không phải vì họ sợ ai, mà vì họ tôn trọng cả chính mình. Sự tôn trọng bản thân thể hiện ở việc chúng ta ý thức được giá trị của mình và mong muốn thể hiện mình một cách tốt đẹp nhất trong mắt người khác. Giữ “Lễ” không phải là cố gắng trở thành một người khác, mà là hoàn thiện bản thân, trau dồi những phẩm chất tốt đẹp và thể hiện chúng một cách tự nhiên trong cuộc sống hàng ngày. Nó là sự hài hòa giữa cá nhân và cộng đồng.

VII. Người trẻ có còn giữ được chữ Lễ?

Có. “Lễ” không bị giới hạn bởi tuổi tác hay thế hệ. Nó là một giá trị phổ quát có thể được thể hiện theo nhiều cách khác nhau.

Chỉ cần đừng bắt họ giữ theo cách cũ. Thế hệ trẻ lớn lên trong một môi trường khác, với những phương tiện giao tiếp và cách thể hiện bản thân khác biệt. Chúng ta cần tôn trọng sự khác biệt đó.

Họ có thể:

• Chọn cách viết email với lời chào trân trọng. Dù là giao tiếp qua mạng, một lời chào lịch sự vẫn thể hiện sự tôn trọng đối với người nhận.
• Biết lắng nghe trong tranh luận. Khả năng lắng nghe và tôn trọng ý kiến khác biệt là một biểu hiện quan trọng của “Lễ” trong thời đại thông tin đa chiều.
• Biết cúi đầu khi mắc lỗi. Sự dũng cảm nhận lỗi và thái độ hối lỗi chân thành là một dấu hiệu của người có trách nhiệm và biết “Lễ”.
• Biết nói lời cảm ơn thật tâm. Dù là một hành động nhỏ, lời cảm ơn chân thành luôn mang lại cảm giác tốt đẹp cho cả người nói và người nghe.

Lễ hôm nay không cần giống hôm qua. Nhưng vẫn cần tồn tại. Nó cần được tái hiện một cách sáng tạo và phù hợp với bối cảnh xã hội hiện đại. Thay vì áp đặt những khuôn mẫu cũ, chúng ta cần khuyến khích người trẻ tìm ra những cách thể hiện “Lễ” phù hợp với thời đại của họ, miễn là nó xuất phát từ sự chân thành và lòng tôn trọng.

VIII. Kết: Nếu một ngày chữ Lễ biến mất… ta sẽ thành ai?

Không ai cần sống như người xưa. Chúng ta không thể và không nên cố gắng quay ngược thời gian.

Nhưng nếu ta không còn biết chào, không còn biết mời, không còn biết nói “cảm ơn” – những hành động nhỏ bé nhưng mang ý nghĩa lớn lao trong việc duy trì các mối quan hệ xã hội – ta có còn là người Việt không? Liệu chúng ta có đánh mất đi những giá trị nhân văn sâu sắc đã định hình nên bản sắc của dân tộc?

Giữ Lễ là giữ lấy một nét nghiêng, một góc nhìn nhân văn, một sự mềm mại trong ứng xử
mà nếu mất đi, ta sẽ trôi khỏi gốc rễ mình từ lúc nào không hay. Chúng ta sẽ trở nên khô khan, lạnh lùng và đánh mất đi sự kết nối tinh thần với cộng đồng và với chính bản thân mình.
